چکیده

A new 1,4-diazepine, callysponine (1), was isolated from a South China Sea Callyspongia sp. marine sponge, together with four known proline-based diketopiperazines: cyclo-(S-Pro-R-Leu) (2), cyclo-(S-Pro-R-Val) (3), cyclo-(S-Pro-R-Ala) (4), andcyclo-(S-Pro-R-Tyr) (5). The new structure was determined on the basis of NMR and MS analysis, and the absolute stereochemistry was defined by NOESY spectroscopy and optical rotation. The structures of the known compounds were identified by comparison of their spectroscopic data with those reported in the literature. Callysponine (1) did not inhibit the growth of HepG2 (hepatoma carcinoma cell), A549 (lung carcinoma cell), and HeLa (cervical cancer cell) cell lines.

Chemical investigation of the sponge Callyspongia sp. from the South China Sea afforded one new diketopiperazine, cyclo-(R-Pro-6-hydroxyl-S-Ile) (1), along with six known diketopiperazines: staphyloamide A (2), cyclo(S-Pro-S-Phe) (3), cyclo-(R-Pro-R-Phe) (4), cyclo-(S-Pro-R-Leu) (5), cyclo-(S-Pro-R-Ala) (6), cyclo(R-Tyr-R-Phe) (7), and three known tryptophan-derived alkaloids: C 2 -α-D-mannosyl...

The anti-biofilm effects of sponge (Callyspongia sp.) and two sea anemones (Zoanthus sansibaricus and Cerianthus lloydii) collected from the Persian Gulf

Background: Sponges and sea anemones do not have specialized defense organs. Instead, they rival harmful microorganisms by producing certain compounds. These compounds can also be useful against some human pathogens. This study aimed to investigate the antimicrobial effects of bioactive products from these marine animals. Methods: Two species of sea anemone <e...

Novel spiciferone derivatives from the fungus Drechslera hawaiiensis isolated from the marine sponge Callyspongia aerizusa.

From the marine sponge Callyspongia aerizusa collected from the Sea of Bali, Indonesia, fungal isolates of Drechslera hawaiiensis were obtained. Culture filtrates of the fungus yielded four spiciferone derivatives which include spiciferone A (1) and B (2), and two other novel derivatives including spiciferol A (3) which is an alcohol congener of spiciferone A (1) and compound 4 which is an mono...

Actinomycetes from the South China Sea sponges: isolation, diversity, and potential for aromatic polyketides discovery

Marine sponges often harbor dense and diverse microbial communities including actinobacteria. To date no comprehensive investigation has been performed on the culturable diversity of the actinomycetes associated with South China Sea sponges. Structurally novel aromatic polyketides were recently discovered from marine sponge-derived Streptomyces and Saccharopolyspora strains, suggesting that spo...

Study of L-Asparaginase Production by Streptomyces noursei MTCC 10469, Isolated from Marine Sponge Callyspongia diffusa

L-asparaginase is an anti-neoplastic agent used in the chemotherapy of lymphoblastic leukaemia. The present work deals with production of extra-cellular Lasparaginase from marine actinomycetes, using submerged fermentation. Marine actinomycete Streptomyces associated with marine spongeCallyspongia diffusa was isolated using specific ISP medium. Sponge-associated Streptomyces was character...
